The Minister for Labour, Employment and Social and Social Economy, Nicolas Schmit, and Social Security Minister Romain Schneider attended the Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council in Brussels on 3 March where they called for more clarity in the coordination of social security systems.
Luxembourg voiced a need for a common understanding of the legal implications of any amendments to the applicable legislation for the coordination of social security systems, including consequences for the administrative burden of the relevant national institutions, impacts on employers involved in cross-border trade, and continuity of rights for highly mobile people.
The Ministers called for a solution to be developed that would enhance clarity for all users, so that the free movement of persons should not be called into questions. Minister Schneider emphasised the position of Luxembourg’s frontier workers, saying account must be taken of the specific situation of the Luxembourg labour market.
